but these were later multiplied by division into classes: Commander Grand Cross

The obverse inscription reads SPANISH CAMPAIGN 1898, the reverse bears an eagle perched upon an anchor with a chain, above the words FOR SERVICE, inscribed above the eagle is UNITED STATES NAVY, engraved BENJAMIN F. SILSBY U. S. S. DOLPHIN 5306, on original striped ribbon, very fine condition. Footnote: The Navy version of the Spanish Campaign Medal was instituted on 27 June 1908 and issued to any man of either the Navy or Marine
